Our Trainers

Adriana Medina

Education: B.A. in International Business from Boise State University, certified by International Sports and Science Association (ISSA), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).

Personal Training Experience: I have been in the fitness industry for 8 years, but I started competing about 4 years ago. My before and after shots illustrate the journey I have made from being inconsistently active to fully committed to a lifestyle of fitness.

Activities: 2007 Gold’s Treasure Valley Classic. Emerald Cup 2006 and Pacific Crest Olympic Triathlon. Elma duathon winner in October 2005.

History: I grew up in a traditional Mexican household where food was part of my culture and even a social event. It wasn’t until I met my trainer that I fully understood the importance of nutrition and exercise in a healthy lifestyle. I enjoyed the education, motivation, and experience so much that fitness has become my career. Working with a large gym exposed to many populations such as:

  • Weight loss
  • Muscle gain
  • Functional health for pre and post natal
  • Sports-specific athletic training

My specialty is fat loss. But most importantly, my primary mission is to see my clients succeed in their goals and learn that fitness can be fun!

Kate Conwell, NASM, BA

I received a BA in Business Marketing from the University of Washington in 2005, and after winning a Collegiate National Title in the Pole Vault, I continue to train and compete on the professional track circuit. In order to support myself and my Olympics dream, I need to have a job that allows me the flexibility to train and compete, so in 2006 I received my National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) Personal Trainer's Certification. I bring years of sports training (track and field, gymnastics, soccer, basketball) and weight-lifting experience, but realize that health is important to everyone, not just elite athletes.

I want to help you accomplish your fitness goals, so in every workout I focus on proper lifting technique. I will teach you correct lifting mechanics to help you maximize each exercise and prevent future injury. Lifting properly will not only help you reach your goals faster, but overtime it will also help you lead a more comfortable life. Over the years everyone develops muscular imbalances, and I want to work with you to minimize those so that your body is working as properly and efficiently as possible. If you are committed to making a change for a healthier lifestyle I will help you do what it takes to get there.

What Is Bellydance?
Bellydance is one of the oldest of all art forms still practiced today. The traditional dance is more than 5,000 years old and extends back through a myriad of cultures and societies in North Africa, the Near and Middle East, and Southern Europe. Bellydance has origins in tribal and folk dances, ritual and temple dances, and dances to prepare women for birth. Today, a bellydance resurgence is occurring all over the world.

The Benefits of Bellydance
The basic movements of bellydance are low-impact and healthful for muscular and skeletal structures. Dancers experience increased flexibility, mobility, and strength, especially in their spines and core muscles, plus a new awareness of the body and its movement through space.

Why Learn from Amy Horn?
Amy is an empathetic and patient instructor who delights in sharing the joy and creativity intrinsic in the bellydance movements. Students in her classes learn dance posture, basic movements, combinations, and how to dance with props. They build flexibility, strength, and endurance and learn a kinetic vocabulary for artistic expression. Everyone has the capacity to learn this ancient dance form and Amy welcomes everyone with an approachable, encouraging attitude. Amy has been studying Middle Eastern dance forms since 1999 and trained as a bellydance instructor under Seattle's Amelia Moore in 2002 and 2003. She currently teaches at Fuerte Fitness and Seattle Central Community College as well as offering specialized workshops and private lessons.

What her students are saying about her classes:
"Amy is such a great teacher. She's easy to follow and is super encouraging. I can't wait to take more of her classes." —Carrie, July 2008

"Amy is an extremely knowledgeable and conscientious teacher. Her classes are challenging, fun, and inspired." —Susan, November 2008

Amy is also the artistic director of the performance troupe Aegea Modern Bellydance. Amy's dance knowledge is augmented by training in physical fitness, yoga, ballet, and Pilates, and she emphasizes proper alignment and body mechanics in every class. She is also certified in Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
