Testimony 3: Veronica Hildebrand
It was December 2004 and I was watching the new reality show. The Biggest Loser and wondering how can one lose that much weight and how does one find a personal trainer if you don't want to subject yourself to the public humiliation of being on network television.
Within the next week I met Adriana. She was very kind and didn't overwhelm me. As we began working out together we pulled together some goals. All I could say was yes, I want to drop this weight, but when you're staring at 100+lbs in the mirror big overall goals are HUGH and seem unattainable.
Initially I just had to get a workout routine into my daily life, then we attacked the diet, and finally I was able to make some personal goals. Six months into training I decided to train for my first endurance event of any kind ever, an olympic distance triathlon. I was scared to say it out loud because then I'd have to do it!
To back up a little Iíll give you some history. I wasn't always fat. The teen years I was trim, played soccer, ran a little track, dabbled in swim team, and loved fashion. In college I did a little modeling and even modeled swimwear on a runway!
Later I got married, a few years later had 2 children, moved around the country (and gained a lot of weight.) Then in February 2003 our youngest daughter was diagnosed with leukemia. At the time while learning about cancer and chemotherapy a thought was haunting me. Am I going to gain more weight? We got through the hardest part of her treatments and she responded well, but by the time I met Adriana I had gained 100 lbs!!.
Well I had almost a year to train for my event. I had to find a swimming suit, start running, start swimming, get on a bike. The whole package. Adriana was there to cheer me on and help me believe I could do it To help me reach my goal I joined the Team in Training program and received triathlon coaching and training. In exchange for the training and coaching the team raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to help find a cure of cancer, as mission dear to my heart.
With a lot of sweat, training, coaching, and fund raising on April 2, 2006 I completed my first triathlon, a .9 mile swim, 26-mile bike, & a 10K run! Then if that wasn't enough I roped Adriana in and she & I signed up for the Pacific Crest olympic triathlon on June 25th. It has been such a journey completing the triathlons.
I'm amazed as I write this as I think about everything I did this last year. I have renewed motivation to continue toward my ultimate goal - reaching my goal weight/size.
I couldn't have done it without the help of Adriana.
